The State of Florida does not own this bridge. The bridge’s bondholders own it and are represented by UMB Bank. Because the bonds are in default, UMB filed suit in Leon County circuit court to have the judge rule to have the toll increased to $5. The judge granted the request and forced FDOT to raise the toll against their will.

There should be no toll on this bridge. Five dollars is a joke. Keeping it open and free would allow better traffic and a continue getaway to the development affecting the area for years. Citizens Escambia and Santa Rosa counties should petition the Florida dot and elected officials in Tallahassee to become free. What’s next 3 mile, perdido and navarre bridge tolls. Over taxation in our area, come on we do not have the income per capital that Orlando, Miami etc have.

The goal isn’t to make money. The goal is for them to have their own private roadway. There really is no other possible reason behind it. They don’t want the excess traffic anywhere near there. I remember seeing posts and thoughts from people that had money involved in it. They kept raising the toll because they wanted to minimize the amount of people who would use it.

The return to FEW cars utilizing this. I would have figured the “owners” would drop the toll to MAYBE $1.00 and keep thousands of cars crossing it daily. Me…I’ll drive around it 98% of the time. Ridiculous toll amount!!! I hope the state has learned something, although it’s doubtful.
