Why is there no effort to use imminent domain to obtain these 2 bridges for the general walfare as the savings from environmental damage alone would make county ownership worthwhile. Also there should be toll collecting machinery at Pens. beach bridge so travelers and visitors would not have to pay 2.50 instead of 1.00 when they don't have a Sunpass- doesn't that seem like a disincentive to bring their business to the beach?

The $1.00 toll on the Pensacola Beach Bridge goes to fund many publicly available infrastructure projects on Pensacola Beach. Paving, sidewalks, crosswalk systems, landscaping, parking lots, and possibly the trolleys (and likely a longer list). It’s a user fee paid by people going on to Pensacola Beach. If it were not for the $1.00 toll, all taxpayers in the county would be picking up those costs.

As for the Garçon Point Bridge, although I must scratch my head as to why investors bought bonds for that bridge, given the traffic studies at the time projecting low traffic flow for decades, it’s time to turn on the tolls, even if partially. Executive Orders to lift tolls was meant to be for hurricane evacuations, not for enduring convenience. With no lanes available on the Pensacola Bay Bridge, I see how the EO can be extended. But with that bridge now open, even partially, the bond holders should demand the EO be rescinded, or that they be compensated for this next month.
