When I started working at a full-service gas station back in 1985, I was told that fumes from the fueling pump tank area could float towards the hot exhaust pipe or manifold and be ignited causing a fire. This is why we were trained to ask customers not to leave the engine running when fueling and no smoking (read signs on pumps). In this case, Serina said the engine was off, so that’s good. But the fumes could have caught that one-in-a-million chance of igniting on the exhaust pipe or an electrical wire shorted causing a spark near the fumes. The fire dept may be able to find the exact cause. I’m very glad no one was hurt.

This is my stepdad’s truck. First and foremost, we are just so thankful no one was injured and no further damage was done. We have no idea what caused the fire. The truck was completely turned off when it ignited and actually came on by itself without a key in it as it was in flames. My stepdad is on a fixed income and this is was one of his most prized possessions so of course he was a little upset. However, vehicles can be replaced (thanks to insurance) people cannot. Thank you to fire and rescue along with those who helped for such a quick response. It is greatly appreciated.

I came by as they were putting it out. Glad no one was hurt. Any idea what started the fire? Hope the owner has insurance! Poor guy.
