I think the speeding comments were in response to Resident who was complaining about the neighborhood that the shooting happened and Atmore police unwillingness to respond to speeders out there.

RC; according to state law they are not allowed to write Speeding tickets outside their city limits, even within their jurisdiction. If they write you a speeding ticket outside the city limits then you should challenge it in court citing the statute that I quoted below

I have family that lives on Woods Road and yes it’s a drag strip for sure needs to stop!
I’ve never seen a cop patrolling that area they are to busy in town stopping The elderly people that are going in and out of the hospital for their lunch and they don’t have a seatbelt on and they’re driving the speed limit like they’re supposed to
Atmore PD is never where they need to be unless the park in town eating or napping

It is perfectly acceptable for this woman to not be charged as an investigation needs to be completed. However, that being said men do not that same treatment. A man would be arrested drug through the mud and charged. Then the investigation would happen and even if charges were later dropped or he won at trial the damage would already be done.

@ Esquire- Please help me understand this. When the Flomaton police sit way out on Hwy 113 where the little sign says “police jurisdiction” and that’s not actually the city limits (I don’t know it it is or isn’t) The Officer can’t legally write traffic tickets? I would think “police jurisdiction” would mean that they had powers as a Law Enforcement Officer in that area. I’m not bashing Police Officers at all-it just seems to be a contradiction.

32-5a-171(9) of the Code of Alabama:
(9) Any speed limit set pursuant to this section shall be enforced by any municipality or any law enforcement officer of a municipality only within the corporate limits of the municipality and not within the police jurisdiction of the municipality.

Atmore Police are not allowed by law to enforce Speed limits outside of the city limits even in their jurisdiction

If she was defending herself and feared for her life, she shouldn’t be arrested.

On another note, as a resident that lives very close to where this happened, I am at my wits end with this mobile home park, aka Deer Creek Cottages. Each landlord that has owned this place could care less about who lives there because they don’t have to deal with it like we do as neighbors. The amount of litter along the roadways leading up to this place is disgusting and becoming a nuisance. As someone who loves their neighborhood, my family and I pick up the trash and garbage at least once a week just so we can have a clean neighborhood.

Also, the amount of traffic in and out every other minute is becoming unbearable. Drug deal after drug deal occurs at all times during the day and night. The speed limit on both Smith Dairy Road and Woods Road is 35mph. Part of Woods Road has become another dragway while the other portion is the “Woods Road Speedway”. It’s unreal! Atmore Police Department absolutely refuses to respond to our calls to speeders and suspicious vehicles. Some of the police officers will never even make a pass through. It’s been heard on several occasions that Woods Road and Smith Dairy Road isn’t even within their police jurisdiction, which is not true! It used to be the ECSO’s jurisdiction but the city of Atmore and Atmore PD wanted to extend it out toward I-65.

What was once a quiet and clean neighborhood has turned to crap in the last several years. Maybe we need to have our own article in North Escambia and other local news outlets published about Deer Creek Cottages?…..
