I understand everyone's frustration, I'm not defending the construction company, but if you would all remember at 5pm on September 15th this storm was off shore and projected to hit Gulfport Mississippi. I, like the rest of property owners there were not too worried about damage and were as unprepared for what happened as Skanska was. When they knocked off that day there were no warnings of Sally plowing through the area.

This bridge work has been a fiasco since the beginning. Completion of first side was over a year late, then they failed to remove the barges and the repairs have taken about 10 months. Meanwhile it appears NOTHING was done to the second side during the repairs to the first. We will be lucky to have a functioning double bridge by 2025 at this rate. It really makes one concerned about the quality of the work. Companies in Gulf Breeze and Pensacola Beach have been greatly damaged. I bet they go bankrupt soon to avoid law suits..This company never should have gotten the contract.

Chinese can put up a 57 story skyscraper in 19 days. Repair a bypass bridge in 43 hrs. They have a giant bridge building machine that lays 100 meter sections of bridge at a time, across gorges and they built a 32 mile bridge to the island of Macau from the mainland. I think we need to send our engineers to China to learn something. We are being left in the dust.

Worked out there on that bridge before and after Sally Skanska is a horrible company to start with I was a third party so not hired by them .
It was no surprise to see them forget to move the barges they waited till less than 24 hours before the storm was to hit before deciding to move the barges all that damage so they could make a few extra hours of work out of their employees

Note: this is only half the bridge to open. It’s the “new” part, recently built by Skanska but terribly damaged by untethered barges from Skanska during Hurricane Sally. The other half, northbound side, was being built, and will complete soon after, hopefully, to open entire bridge. The damaged/potentially repaired southbound side will hold both southbound and northbound traffic, tightly packed, until completion of second side...

Worked out there. The fishing pier is pretty much destroyed. Lot of damage you can't see until you go by it or under it in a boat. It most likely will be replaced.

So if the bridge is to last 99 years , they should start building the next one now so it will be done by then.

@ Denbroc
Saw that in some earlier pics after Sally. Heard that Skanska wanted to remove the fishing pier to make their access easier then rebuild it after they had finished the spans from Gulf Breeze to Pensacola. Haven't seen or heard anything since then.
If removed and built back would be a good time to make it longer and wider.
Need to wet a line soon.
