Shame on some of you for pointing fingers. We are all human and we all make mistakes at some point in our lives. What if it were you? It could have been.

OK, people keep saying he looked twice, which makes no since in this situation. Since they were both traveling on the same road in opposite directions. This being the case he would not have had a need to "look twice" as the oncoming traffic would naturally be in his line of sight. In order for him to "look twice" he would have had to look away, and then back two times. Please before you jump me about my comment, I am not pointing a finger or assigning blame. I just don't quite understand his need to say he looked twice.

There are too many negative comments about this situation. It is an accident and take it for that. If the driver said he didn't see the cyclist and looked twice, believe it. To make that turn, the SUV had to nearly come to a complete stop to turn.

Everyone needs to be saying prayers for both families involved instead of thinking you have all the answers.

@friend,

this incident was not an accident. It was a stupid move by a driver that was not paying attention. No way he "looked twice" for motorcycles. how do you not see a motorcycle that close if you looked twice.

For everyone that keeps commenting, the young man that caused this is a very exceptional driver. He did not intentionally cause this car wreak on purpose "it was an accident". He was on his way home from church and was turning on his road that he lives on he looked twice and didn't see anybody. This young man doesn't text and drive or watch movies and drive or what ever else and drive you fill in the blank but what he is doing right now is struggling with the fact that he has taken someone's life on accident, he is praying to God asking him why did this happen to me, why did I go to lunch after church, why did I drive the speed I did home, why didn't I stay just 5 second longer at lunch. Please shut up and let this young man grieve in peace. One more thing if you observe the location of the vehicle in the image or saw it in person like I did you will see that the young man had to of slowed down to a near stop to turn left onto old bridge road (if not you will flip because you are turning well over 90 degrees to the left your making an approximant 135 degree turn). I know both families and I grieve for both so I ask if you don't know these families please shut up and mind your business. I pray God works in both of these families as they navigate the very difficult water ahead. Love you all.

I tell my driver safety classes all the time that you can be the safest motorcycle rider in the world and all it takes is 1 person to run a stop sign, turn in front of you or something like that and you're done. RIP to this man, thoughts are with his family and the family of the young man who caused this.

This isnt an accident. Its involuntary manslaughter due to distracted driving or lack of situational awareness.

Maybe if people were actually punished for driving like idiots they would quit killing others. Just knowing you killed someone isnt enough to stop some people.

Maybe one day folks will finally see these incidents as CRASHES and not ACCIDENTS.

This CRASH occurred as one party failed to yield and made an improper left hand turn in front of approaching traffic.

Prayers to everyone involved. I learned to drive in northern Illinois, the first few nice weekend days of the year (usually in May or June) were always super dangerous to be out on the road on your bike. Car drivers just aren't as prepared to watch for bikers because it's been awhile with few or no bikes on the road. Gotta keep your head on a swivel even more; so many people texting and driving these days doesn't help the situation any either!

Use your turn signals and put down your phones!

I imagine speed was involved here. As a "retired" motorcycle rider of 39 years without hitting anything solid on or off the road, I found that most riders like to travel at speeds well over the posted limit. I believe that you, in a cage, don't perceive a motorcycle as a threat when it's a distance away, you can't tell the closure rate is too high. So that cycle being well over the speed limit arrives faster than you expected because you "didn't see it". Most often both drivers are at fault for these types of accidents.
