I witnessed this accident, complete drama on the kids part. The guy in the silver truck that hit him was in shock. The officer on scene, kudos.

as a hospital worker who works around mental health services and mental health patients heavily, 1. im sorry you have the impression that we lock patients up with 0 attention or empathy. thats not the case (for where i work at least) and 2. “locked up” is a loose term. it is a secure place due to the nature of behaviors covered under mental health for everyone’s safety and well being. I work with some of the most empathetic and caring people who deal with the mental health cases of ALL kinds.

as for this story and those involved, praying for peace and comfort and help from this accident.

Approx 40 yrs ago I had a man who was intoxicated walk into the path of my truck on Mobile Hwy and just before impact as I had my brakes locked he jumped up on the hood and saved himself alot of injury. Plenty of witnesses and did not require hospitalization. I visited him the next day to make sure he was ok. My Ins. paid for his rent, etc for 2 months even though he admitted being intoxicated and the test at the hospital verified it. That image I recall vividly to this day.
Prayers for both parties and glad the teen was not severely injured.

Hope this young person gets the help they need, between the drugs and gangsta mentality today, kids have it harder than ever and add covid restrictions to it and it creates a perfect mental health storm for many.

The driver may not have been physically injured but that is an image he will never forget & though not his fault I’m sure he questions why he was involved in this incident. I pray for him strength. As for the teen, He must feel so alone to go to those lengths to end his life. I pray for him comfort & road to happiness.

Feel bad for the kid, and the driver for the mental anguish that memory will cause him for a long long time. I hope the kid can get the help he needs (i.e. not being locked in a hospital room with nearly zero attention and empathy for 24 hrs).
