John dogs are trained to smell almost anything, they don’t all alert on the same scents
but somehow they can do it.

Electronic devices that have memory storage have a coating of a chemical called triphenylphosphine oxide, or TPPO. This is what the dogs are sniffing out. These devices can’t be made without it..

Not sure I buy this. What sort of unique smell does a solid state storage device give off that a dog can detect?

I mean, great if they can. I just sounds far-fetched, like that FHP trooper years ago that said he could smell pot and it turned out he was just profiling.

I am glad they got this guy…. but i do not think i believe that this dog was taught to sniff our pcb based products in homes that are already “knee deep” in computerized stuff.
