He was a really good man, loving father and adored his childhood sweetheart. They just reconnect 2 years ago. His first born son was just born. He was 3months old when he lost his life. He would always walk up to this store for just about anything. When you read over all the reports and see the pictures of the damage to the vehicles. This man did not walk in the path way of this car. He was on the shoulder of the road. Where you can ride your bikes and walk along. When you look at the damage of that man’s car. The man driving the SUV had to cross over that white line. The mirror on the car is what hit him first and fell into the path away of the box truck.. since his life was taken and he could not tell his side. They went on the words of the man who hit him and not the evidence to show exactly what happened. His family deserves some closer. The people who knew this man know in their hearts he didn’t walk into the path way.

There was so many blessings after we lost Carl Wayne Powell I just have to gras p the part that he left the most important thing in his life he was 29 he just decided that he wanted a child that did not sound like a man that wanted to leave his family he was ready for that he made it that decision that decision was huge in his life he was ready to be a family to raise his family with decent morals the same as his parents did to him .

He was a good kid he wasn’t raised like an animal he had good parents his parents taught him right from wrong he was so blessed with his parents he was never spoiled he wasn’t a brat but he left something amazing behind he knew what he wanted . When he step down n that street he did not have control of them breaks or his life…. Why is it there a crosswalk the most dangerous highway in Pensacola why was it there a break.

This man lived across the street from me. He was a good man and a good neighbor. Unlike most neighbors in this day and age hed take the time to say hello and talk a few minutes when he saw me outside. He walked to the store, just as I have several times myself and he didnt make it home to his family. My heartfelt condolences @Nicole and to his family.

To those of you saying there’s a light, use a crosswalk, you have obviously never crossed this intersection on foot. You would know there is no crosswalk nor a break in the traffic Northbound that would allow for anyone to safely cross with. This man would probably be here now if there were.

The only time the Northbound lanes are stopped by a light is when the cars from West Robert’s are turning onto those Northbound lanes. So it’s either dodge the Northbound traffic or dodge the cars turning onto those Northbound lanes. There’s no break long enough to safely make it accross the Northbound lanes.

This is honestly the most dangerous light I have ever encountered! It needs a crosswalk with a break in traffic for pedestrians trying to get to Tom Thumb and back across. I am looking into how many signatures a Petition needs to have the DOT consider a crosswalk and break in traffic for pedestrians at this light.

@LouAnne – Bless your heart, you must suffer from the same issues these folks that get run over suffer from. Either you can’t read or you just don’t know where you are. That’s probably why the guy got ran over….he probably just didn’t know where he was. Be careful out the LouAnne.

@Nicole – Lay blame wherever you think you should. Bottom line is this……a 29 year old took a chance not with taking. He rolled the dice and lost. He was irresponsible and stepped out when he shouldn’t have.

@Nicole, I have a news flash for ya, people don’t use crosswalks and some don’t use sidewalks so let’s don’t pretend they save lives. No he didn’t deserve this but neither did the drivers, this can happen to anyone. The fact is if you get in the road you take a chance of being run over it’s very simple.

I think the point is missing here.. he was survived by a wife, an infant and a son. He was just trying to cross the street. I know for a fact that people have never obeyed speed limits on Hwy 29. I grew up there. That area is extremely hard to navigate during the day, let along at night in an area with such high traffic volume and such low visibility in the form of street lights. No cross-walks, no sidewalks. He didn’t deserve this. His family didn’t deserve this.

LouAnne: Unfortunately the article said the victim walked from the shoulder into the roadway where on coming vehicles were traveling. Sidewalks would not have helped in this situation as the victim made the decision to walk into the roadway at 6:36pm. I agree with you sidewalks are needed.
