Dont make the same mistake I did. The pay is trash and your treated like trash by administration and inmates. It's a lose lose situation for the average person looking to make a buck. $1,000 bonus for the worse job imaginable. They are also severely understaffed which is an officer safety issue which has been happening for YEARS. They do not care nor does the DOC care about its employees. You will have faces and urine thrown on you by inmates and possibly attacked or killed. Not worth the stress or the penny pay. I should have started at McDonald's and worked my way to manager. They didn't ho to a low-tech for 60 hours to get a degree. Too many of the guards are just bullies and, it seems to me that they worse they treat the inmates, the quicker they advance! It is an upside down system, favoring those who are sergeant and above over the slick-sleeves! The inmates run the place!
