Stand Your Ground Law and Castle Doctrine what are the differences?I was under the impression stand your ground you had the right to fight before you flee?

@ Have question…my question is after he broke down a residence door…what did he do next, was he armed, is aware of what he or she is doing.
Is he or she running from someone and needs help
We can go though many scenarios
What are you going to do if he breaks breaks your door down.
That is a question you asked….what are you going to do.
We can play cat and mouse all day long but in the end, you have to make the call
You seem smart enough to handle the situation at hand but we cant sit here and banter what if.
The situation will be fluid and omni-directional
Did the person just stand there when they broke your door down?
Will you run…no..because your going to assess the situation and do what you feel you have to do…did you speak to the person?
Like I said, you cant paint a picture and expect it to come out the same way if it happens

If “you have the duty to retreat”, does that mean if a criminal breaks down your front door you must run out the back and watch from afar while the criminal plunders through your treasured belongings and burns down your house? I would feel miserably helpless and kinda stupid if the criminal gets away before the police get there to help. I would feel like I just empowered the criminal to abuse me. But, I don’t want to end up in jail doing the wrong thing according to the law.

You have the duty to retreat but not if you are in a assault within those confines
If you are in a situation of assault you have the right to use deadly force under those circumstances
It has to be imminent threat…not ” he broke into my home”
Breaking into a dwelling is not an imminent threat
People on here can mouth the words of what they will do.
Plenty are in prison because they listened to forums online instead of getting professional guidance
No one wants to go to prison for being for being misinformed

Florida’s law is based in part on castle doctrine. Castle doctrine says that you have a right to defend yourself — with deadly force in most cases — if you are in your home, yard or private office.

Mr.David so what if someone broke into your home what would the outcome be bake burglar some cookies and milk?Not sure why it’s ok for some criminal to have the right to invade your house not knowing what his or her intentions are?

@Wayne did you read the story? A warning shot doesn’t need to be fired if he breaks into a home that isn’t his. He would be dead at my residence. Unarmed or not, you have the right to protect your home. You get educated.

At the moment the intruder started towards me I would have questioned his intent and would shoot to kill in fear of for my life!
