Maybe the home owner fired a warning shot in hopes of not actually ending that persons life and giving them a second chance. I might have done the same thing for a family member gone astray but not a total stranger in my house. It could cost you your life I was told once, by a very wise man, never pull a gun unless you are prepared to use it, and never aim to maim. Your choice needs to be made and affirmed in your head the second you pull a weapon for self defense. Using a gun to hold a person at bay till help arrives is one thing but if a situation escalates where you are threatened and an individual challenges you, there should be no hesitation.
