Best wishes Class of COVID-19!

Some sage advice:

1. If you do not pursue further education, you’re depending on inheritance, or will end up dirt poor. Always pursue and be open to new learning opportunities. When offered free education, take it! Never stop learning new stuff.

2. Minimize debt and expenses. Buy a good used car, not new. Thrift stores have some good clothing. Eating in is less expensive than eating out. Avoid cable TV, expensive phone plans, and recurring subscriptions not being used.

3. Save money. Open a stock brokerage account as an Individual Retirement Account. Buy just a few shares of an Exchange Traded Fund, or ETF, likely an S&P 500 ETF. Preferably open a Roth IRA, but understand the tax requirements. Even if you make no further deposits until your late 20’s, your retirement savings system is underway. You will likely become wealthy one day. Save just a itty bitty little bit.

4. Always work towards a better job. Be open minded and flexible. Carefully consider the impact of COVID19 and automation/robotics in what you pursue.

5. Climate change can and will be expensive. Look for ways to reduce energy expenses in your future homes and transportation by design and use. Windows, attics, water heating, cooling, appliances. Think about how to use free energy on your property. Example: attic heat for water heating. As you build your homes, look ahead 10 and 25 years at utility bills. Also, avoid purchasing flood prone properties. Protect your biggest investment! Better the world!

6. Hold off on having kids until you discover who you are. Wait until you’re 23-25 on the children. You’ll be in a better position in another half decade to be a stronger parent. And when you have kids, share your life, and show them the little things, not just TV.

7. Stay away from cigarettes, vaping, and other silly body harming behaviors. It’s expensive, a waste, deprives you of accomplishing the above, and creates evil little tumors that take you over, creating sadness for those around you who really admire and love you.
