On the railroad, the term "investigation" is misleading. "Investigation" is just a euphemism for "company trial". Just like, in normal courts, they send you "charging documents" and you need to make sure you have representation to go with you. They do not care about finding the causes as long as they have scapegoats to be blamed. In A TRUE "investigation", they should be looking for causes, but all they do at a railroad "investigation" is to find how they can discipline the crew, especially, the engineer!
