The lady was hurt. The officer was hurt. She could have been killed.

The person pursued could have been guilty of many things, some major, some minor. We do not know.

The lady was hurt. The officer was hurt. She could have been killed. She could have killed or crippled others if she lost control — which she did.

Looking back with 20-20 hindsight, she would have probably done otherwise. She didn’t have the liberty to spend hours considering every possibility. Even if she considered what to do in advance, she couldn’t be sure of the outcome and won’t be sure the next time…and the next time…and the next time…

Part of the job. A very stressful job.You can’t set your standards by those you arrest. You need the highest standards and people will still second guess you from both directions.

Keep it simple. Hope she fully recovers.

HAHAHAHAHA! I love the comments on here! So by a lot of your “standards”, if a loved one is injured and dying, if someone is breaking into your house, if someone is beating the crap out of your child and you call the police or EMTs, you’re going to tell them to “make sure and stay within the speed limit!”

I love how people talk. If anyone of these people had to wait 10 minutes for a police officer to arrive while their house was being broke into, etc, they would be screaming, “WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG”?

No high speed chase is worth the life of innocent people. She should have known better. So now she is injured in the line of duty, that she caused herself? Might want to think twice about having her on the force, not only did she risk innocent lives on the roadway, she did not follow protocol. Thank goodness no one was seriously injured or killed because of her over-zealousness!

I agree for additional reasons. She is also a new hire from another county and hasn’t been with the sheriff dept. but for only a little over a year. She doesn’t know the roads as well as other deputies who work that area so she shouldn’t have been running any chase regardless of who had the authority to begin it. Praying she has a full recovery and maybe a new choice in careers.

She was not the lead deputy to make that call to give chase
The lead deputy called off the chase that should have never been initiated
ECSD was never contacted on the issue..yes I do know that as a fact not supposition
Being overzealous gets innocent people killed
Not being trained in procedure and following protocol gets innocent people killed

You are right about one thing there { We back the Blue } who knows who was in the car or weather they where a child molester, murderer or just forgot the milk and turned around to go back to the grocery store. A high speed chase is one off the most dangerous things on the road. almost all end in crashes and death. they should not happen unless the person being chased has committed a felony. By the time the officer got in their car to give chase the suspect was long gone an probably didn’t know anyone was after him. since she didn’t have a description of the car ill guess she never caught up with him and he was somewhere safe before she crashed

So blame the police for doing the job they were sworn to do and not blame the criminal for running? The driver had every opportunity to stop when he saw the deputies behind him and he chose to run. Are we just blaming the police for chasing and potentially hurting or killing someone or are we just going to lay the blame where it really should lie…on the criminal? The criminal is the one who had the reckless disregard for human life. The police were doing their jobs and chasing a law breaker and who knows what they discovered when they ran the license plate.

Everyone is so quick to blame the police these days. Trust me when I say, the deputies know the dangers and would rather not chase people. The deputies in those areas know how dangerous it can be. I know because I dated a deputy for about 5 years who was from the area and he always warned me about driving those roads at night. The police took an oath to serve and protect the citizens of the jurisdictions they work in. What If they hadn’t chased the vehicle, it was involved in an accident or a crime later on or perhaps the person driving committed another crime after leaving the check point, the same people screaming that the police shouldn’t have chased the car would then be screaming why didn’t they chase the guy. Like I said in the beginning of my comment, everybody is so quick to sit back from their armchairs and judge the police for doing their jobs.

Who knows who was in the car? Does anybody other than the deputies and troopers know? What if he was a child molester, murderer or a killer? What if you or your loved ones were impacted by their criminal activity? Would you feel differently?

I say if she couldn’t give a description of the vehicle she wasn’t close enough to actually give chase. If she didn’t know the area she was in she shouldn’t have been at the rate of speed she was travelling. She was on a well travelled road and could have caused someone to get hurt or worse. No idea why the car spun around and run from them, could have been no license, no insurance, drugs or DUI. Yeah I am going to chase a drunk and possibly cause them to wreck and kill themselves or a someone else. Glad she wasn’t badly injured. Think before you act.
