This is Terrible. Thankful no people or pets hurt.

We had a nice refrigerator that worked for several years, no problem.
Opened the door one day and it was WARM inside which is never a good thing.
Turned out the switch and interior light had some design flaw and were not turning OFF when the door was closed. Light assembly was turning brownish from the heat generated from the light bulbs.
Unplugged fridge and let sit for a few minutes and removed the lamps from the holder. Better it be dark when we opened door than keep heating up and cause problems.
Called Sears and they sent a repairman who said he'd seen several of these cases. The circuit boards got some sort of problem over time and quit turning out lights which could cause fires.
New circuit board worked fine and now lamps go off when door closes and presses the switch.
Not sure this is the case here but just a thought.
