You are correct – it is International Paper and I fail to recognize that since I’ve worked in the area for years and continuously call it Champion. My old job was at Chemstrand, then Monsanto. Later they changed to Solutia, now Ascend.

My wife and I had to move from the area North of Cantonment. It was too risky taking a chance with our life in case of an emergency. We are situated well West of there now. We have had groceries in the car, when ice cream melted and milk to spoil because of the train blocking the road. It was not a pleasant experience cleaning that up. Now we take an ice chest when shopping for groceries in Cantonment.

The train blocking the road has become a serious and stressful situation for all those that need to travel in that area on a daily basis.

It may never be resolved in my lifetime.

The mill does not own the railyard. It is where the train companies pick up and drop off strings of freight cars for inbound and outbound shipping. Yes the railyard has been there for many decades and back then that area was rural and hwy 29 had little traffic. My suggestion is not for an overpass, but for the railroad company to relocate its yard to the east side of highway 29.

Yeah they should definitely build an overpass at the railroad crossing there because I have personally watched ambulances needing to get across and having to wait 10-15 minutes and if one of my children were on the other side needing that ambulance I’d be more than a lil bit mad. I’ve lived here 41 years they could do better if enough people stood together. It’s not 1965 with 30 to 50 cars going down the road all day…its 2019 with a few thousand cars going down 29 every day time to get with the program we got all this money to spend on the roads right there on Muskogee plus hwy 90 and all down hwy 29 so why can’t roads inc build an over pass there?

Sounds a lot like those people that complain when they buy a house near an existing airport and then want to complain about the noise from the airplanes. I would be willing to bet that plant and those trains were there before most of you. Do your research when buying a house. It’s not the plants fault. Why should they spend more money for your convenience?

I really don’t think we need any additional traffic on Hwy 29. It would take lots of trucks to transport what the trains move. By the way it is International Paper.
