If I had to guess. And, thats all it would be. I would venture to say the plane was flying a pipeline. You fly very low and take pictures of anything out of order on the line. If you lose your engine then you have to set it down anywhere you can. Like a sandbar.

Mr. William, we would sure like to be updated concerning the pilot please.

There is a list of letters, used in the call numbers for flying and yes, N is on the list. It looks as if the pilot did everything right trying to land that plane. Thank God he lived and didn't hurt anyone on the ground. Planes are easy to replace, just like boats and cars.

Sure will be interesting to get more info on this... what he was doing if he was flying low along the river... and, like Charlie, I'm also curious about what is mounted on the strut. Maybe an aerial photography rig? Or sensors for environmental purposes? The N number doesn't even seem to be registered. It's a mystery!

@Charlie

My guess would be that this is a survey plane, which may explain the alleged low altitude flights along Hwy-29 by fish 621. If it is a survey plane, then the cables are most likely for a wing strut mounted sensor pod, which lots of survey planes have.

Strange (for a special purpose?) black cables going to an attachment fitting of some sort, on that wing strut. Landing on sand in an emergency is better than going into trees, but can have bad soft spots, to spoil a safer landing.

I wonder if this is the same small plane I saw going over Hwy 29 very, very low up in Cantonment about that time today? It was strange to see one that low and in this area. It was heading north toward Jay.Prayers for the pilot.
