One of the great overlooked features of our area is the great static display of road equipment on 9 Mile Road between US29 and Pine Forest Road. Great pains were taken to create the illusion of an actual construction site, including its real and gritty reality. Visitors get a real panoramic view of the road pieces there on display as they slowly move along at .5 mph, being able to get a detailed view of the equipment , including millions of authentic roadblock barrels. One treat of the display is on Tuesdays when they do a 30 minute demonstration of the equipment , as they reposition it. You can actually see the big machines move a bit. Don’t miss the roller coaster effect of the lane changes and asphalt patches in front of the Lowe’s. It is a definite must see for the entire family! You’d better hurry, though, because this exhibit will only be here until 2035, when they have to move it to Chicago.
