@ Country Citizen. Everybody pays a
Federal tax on gas & diesel. Then the states usually
add a tax that the State gets. Then the County/City sometimes (we do)
add another tax. Much of the State ,County/City tax is for roads in say Florida
and Escambia County. Fuel is cheaper in Alabama and they don’t send
Florida any tax dollars for our local roads & bridges. So, when you buy a truck
in another State and live in the other state and buy FUEL,Insurance and tags and
Licensing in the other State guess who’s losing if they do lots of heavy truck driving
in a neighboring State ? You think when our roads need resurfacing Alabama’s
gonna chip in ? How bout the owners of the big Trucks ? Then there’s the safety
issue and speed limits and bicycle riders etc. and then I’d mention that cutting
the grass along the road needs to be done weekly ( Escambia County) instead
of twice a year or have Sheriff deputies stop traffic so homeowners can do it.

Remember log trucks go north to the MCDAVID mill too.
The log truck pays plenty of road use tax along with
The tax on fuel. So they should be able to be on every
Road just as everyone else.

@CW you do realize most of those Trucks are crossing Hwy 29 and
heading north ? Cantonment and the Mill are south. There’s no traffic
light @ hwy 29 and hwy 196. Muscogee road ( old pensacola hwy) has
a traffic light @ hwy 29 right there at the Mill.

You do realize those trucks from Alabama are providing logs to the paper mill in Cantonment right? I guess they could always shut the mill down and put those people out of work.

Maybe one day they will redo hwy 4 from century to davisville its very dangerous when it rains because of road being poor engineering To begin with it holds water in the worst spots .you can be goin slow and still have difficulty controlling the vehicle if someone in my family is hurt because of it well let’s just say they will not like paying me off stop wasting money on bridges that rarely get traveled and do something constructive with our tax money maybe hwy 4 construction . I got 6th grade education and figured out they don’t know how to be constructive or profitable

So happy to hear this.long time needed for this road.it has beat all our cars down with the bad pot holes an the old bridge has such a dip in it.hope they fix that.so wonderful cant wait for this to get started.

Will be great once finished. Hope it’s not like hwy 196 when finished with
paving and new bridge here comes the log trucks from Alabama. From daylight
til dark. Alabama tags, fuel,insurance etc. need to reduce speed limit to 45mph
but guess our Officials don’t know/care.
