Shannon,
Yes, firefighters are trained for medical situations. But why does this county insist on sending million dollar fire trucks to medical calls? Trucks are getting abused. Firemen are required to actually work every hour of every shift.... The fire fighters are dead set on increasing numbers bc they are so overworked.... why are we putting paramedics on fire trucks? We all know the real problem. Countywide consolidation of fire and EMS is a stupid and ignorant idea. Let ambulances take care of medical calls and the firemen take care of life threatening situations. Escambia county EMS staffing is the root cause of this dilemma. If you want to live out in BFE dont expect to have immediate emergency responses. Everybody is all bent out of shape about paying taxes and getting service. Dont move to Enon or Booker St and gripe about paying countywide taxes expecting same service as someone in Brent.

Hey Sandra, how about you get some more education on how this entire service works before you go spouting nonsense about getting rid of a Chief who is actually trying to make this place better. It just so happens that there is no ALS coverage north of Cantonment, except for the Ambulance service. When ALS medical care is in need the closest unit available to go will be sent. A lot of the time since there are not enough ambulances on the road to respond to the call volume, which is continuing to grow btw, the ALS fire engine is sent to respond. That way the patient who is in need of emergency care doesn’t have to wait an excess amount of time to receive the care they need. If trucks were to move up for coverage for every medical call Engine 4 goes on, that would continuously leave other areas without the adequate fire coverage as a result as well. Now if you would politely get your head out of where the sun don’t shine, and come to the realization that it is not the Fire Chief’s fault, but the fault of the BOCC for not properly funding the services that are indeed here to help you and the rest of the citizens of Escambia county, we would all be much obliged.

I thought the volunteers would've handled this, I mean they do get paid a stipend. The problem isn't the chief when the same issues have been going on for years. The problem is a lack of funding and commissioners that are unwilling to do anything about it. More than 6 vacancies that can't be filled due to pay that isn't competitive, and more soon to come. More fires like this will unfortunately continue to happen until ECFR can cover the county adequately which wont happen without a raise of the fire MSBU. Commissioners are more worried about getting reelected than protecting the lives and property of their citizens.

Our Fire Fighters do a fantastic job. If the problem is, we don't have enuf, then we need to bring it up to the County.

The ECFR Chief has no problem with Cantonments E4 routinely leaving the area for medical calls. He doesnt move trucks up and leaves Cantonment with no fire coverage. Rusty Nail needs to go.

Meanwhile, the closest firefighters were in Molino running a medical call. What's it gonna take? What's it gonna take for escambia county to realize we need more ambulances so these fire men can do their jobs.
