But, on the other hand, this is a sign of the times I think we might want to change.... all of it! All of the drive-thru, rush thru things we do.... when do we slow down, take a break, stroll through the aisles in the grocery store and take in the sites and smells of the produce and flower departments.... actually sit down to eat with family or even a book just to have the time it takes to slowly eat your dinner to give your body and brain a break.... and this, ashes. Full disclosure, I did not grow up in a family that went to church or participated in this ritual - so some my feel I have no room to comment of this --- But -- Shouldn't this simple act also be a chance to park your car and walk in to soak up the peace of a church sanctuary ? I know, we can pray anywhere... you can connect with God anywhere - he is everywhere, even the drive-thru lane.... but everyone talks about the way life is flying by and how we are so connected (cell phones, etc) that we never truly disconnect anymore... maybe, this could have been that... a few minutes, a short walk, a chance to sit and breathe... to disconnect from the rush of life and connect with your beliefs for a part of your day. Best wishes to all of you who do participate in Ash Wednesday and Lent. I was pleasantly surprised when I drove up to the q line and there was Fr. Anthony and associate Liv administering the ashes. We sure have come a long way baby!
