I am 60 years ago and was talking to someone today about the need for civics classes in schools again. I took Civics from Mr. MrCorvey in 8th grade and told my friend what an impression he made on me. I decided to do an internet search for Mr. McCorvey, and this website came up. I am sad to think he is not around anymore and sorry for his family's loss. If anyone in the family sees this, I just wanted you to know, I thought he was an amazing man. He taught me many things, not just about civics but about being a good human. And I always felt he was the type of person who would fight for justice for all. My maiden name was Sanchez, and I occasionally had issues because of it. But he was very supportive of me as a female and as a Hispanic person. My funniest memory was when he asked if anyone in the class could name the 26 Amendments (1976). I raised my hand, and he said, "Okay, but do them in reverse order." (I did, just because I knew he would get a kick out of it. And he did.)

Mr. McCorvey was the nicest gentleman & the best administrator. I was a teacher at
Woodham High during the 1980s. I thoroughly enjoyed his sense of humor & sincere
concern for students & teachers. Mr. McCorvey dedicated his life to helping others & he will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him!

Mr. McCorvey was the one person during my high school years who encouraged me to continue my education past high school. He offered advice that would have shaped my life like no other. I will miss having lunch with him during my visits to Pensacola. Thank you for caring about so many individuals.

I went to Workman Middle School where he taught Civics and then became Principal. Even though I highly disliked civics, I really liked Mr. McCorvey. He even came to one of our Woodham Highschool , Class of 1983, reunions. I teased him about that civics class every time I saw him. He will be missed. What a great man!

My early years of spiritual growth and development at Mt. Olive Baptist Church were a shared journey with Elvin and the rest of the McCorvey family. What a remarkable journey it was. Even though my family relocated from Pensaola after my high school years, I maintained a sustained relationship with the McCorvey family. I was very proud of the many accomplishments that Elvin achieved.
My prayers go out to his entire family as they grieve his lost from them, but celebrate his home going to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus, the Christ!

Bro. McCorvey was a giant among men. Passionate about education, committed to Kappa Alpha Psi, and a true FAMU Rattker. He left an indelible imprint on young men and women entering the education profession, and held true to public service. What a life and legacy.
