Disaster is exactly what these funds were spawned from.

Why is there a problem applying them to this disaster?

That is not what the settlement agreement was issued for. I empathize with those effected by Michael, but those funds are specifically ear marked for ecological recover from the oil spill. They take the funds now to pay for what insurance should be used for, then who will pay for the ecological long term damages from the oil spill? You can’t create money for projects, and five years from now when those funds are needed, there won’t be the ability to get it. Sell bonds, set budgets, do what those counties need to do to raise funds to rebuild, just like our area had to do after Ivan. The government can’t keep robbing Peter to pay Paul and hope the future helps replace the funds. No, No and No!

That’s completely messed up. Who is the Zar that decides where the BP money gets spent? I have seen very good causes that are directly related to the loss of revenue because of the oil spill denied.

Just say NO! This is the problem with cash addicted politicians and government. Once there is money set aside for one catastrophic event, they want to use it for some other purpose, much like Social Security trust fund has been since the 60's and 70's.
