Everybody enjoys a good laugh. Vote counting is done county by county and that is a strength and a weakness. It's harder to hack a thousand different systems (or even just 67) than to hack just one. On the other hand, some will be operated by incompetent people. Mistakes happened all around the world where actual free elections happened but the votes weren't so close. Florida is different in that we are not all lock-step left or right, A or B. This is a good thing. We have tight elections because some actually think and have different priorities. That is why relatively small problems matter. Verifying voters are legitimate is more important than verifying who is buying toilet paper, so it can take a bit longer. Recounts in close elections are mandated by state law no matter how the counting was done. This is actually because we take votes seriously ever if others laugh. Further, we want to count all legitimate votes even if the voter was sloppy. Unlike purchases, they don't vote every day and some still purchase what they didn't intend to buy. Not that better equipment is not a good idea, just that all equipment has to be properly maintained and protected and we don't really all want to be just like every other country.
