Chris, yes they get paid. But just like the power crews a lot of them were on standby in Milton and other places waiting to be able to go help. Then those same crews headed to the hurricane ravaged areas with chainsaws and heavy equipment, clearing a path as they went so the first responders could get through to help the many in need and to check on those that hadn’t been heard from. After working for about 20 hours, they got to rest and then they will be going back for more. After the roads are cleared so people will be able to check the damage to their houses, others are checking the roadways that have been damaged to see what will be the quickest and best way to make them passable. A lot of those same paid state employees were helping to man the Emergency Operations Centers both before, during, and after the storm. And there is always the fact that a lot of these same employees that are helping live in the storm affected areas and might have major problems of their own.
