That military time over jail time wasn't a good idea then and certainly not now. When I was drafted in 1969 there were two hand cuffed prisoners with escorts awaiting induction. After the oath was given, they were uncuffed and we all went to Ft Benning for Basic. They were constantly in trouble with the Sr. Drill and eventually were kicked out of the Army, and did not finish basic. I would not have trusted them to be watching my back in Nam or anywhere else. Not a good idea at all, and besides, the Army won't take this type of person with a record anymore. I am retired from the Army.
