People don’t even think about going out there it’s easily 3 times worse than they say it is. Only about half of what goes on out there makes it to the media. Low pay, low staffing levels and low morale, in addition to all that you won’t be appreciated for the job you do by the governor, state or public.

Tip of the iceberg for labor shortages. Legal immigration has all but stopped except in high paying tech jobs. The United States birth rate is now significantly below replacement, and the biggest population bulge in American history are leaving the workforce in record numbers. Eighty year old prison guards will not work, so exactly where are these guards going to come from even if you raise wages and give a five thousand dollar bonus. Prison guards with these labor shortages are going to be more and more at risk with under staffing, which will make the job even more unattractive as officer safety is going to be a real issue.

They have bigger problems then a $1000 sign on bonus. Why are so many people leaving? Maybe audio and video ? Maybe running shift below critical at times? Maybe decade old equipment so the cell phones and drugs go undetected up there rear ends. Maybe some staff have gave up so it makes it harder on others so they look for other jobs. Just how many staff have quit,retired in the last 2 years can anyone say?

But long time staff have only had one pay raise in over a decade get nothing and they wonder why they can’t retain quality staff.
