I’m so thankful to know the libraries and Harvest are doing this. I worked at a library near here for years, and I was very saddened to realize how many kids went without food when school was out.

Every summer we’d have kids sitting on the front steps waiting for us to open, early in the morning. They were hungry. Either the parents were at work and left them on their own or the kids were actually kicked out of their homes and told not to come back before dark. Didn’t matter why, they were hungry. All the employees at the library brought fruit and snacks every day to feed the kids. It still bothers me and I’m so glad to see something being done about this problem.
