The actually valve is located several feet underground, They broke of the connection rod and hydrant but the valve was left intact

Prayers to the driver and the occupant. So scary when accidents happen so quickly. I hope they’re okay. I go through there so many times, I honestly don’t think I’ve ever noticed the hydrant there. I just drive, making sure nobody pulls out in front of me and sadly my main goal is usually looking further towards the store hoping to get a good parking spot close to the front doors due to a disability with my leg. Just realizing that makes me as a driver realize I need to be more observant on things actually in parking lots and such.

Again, I hope and pray the driver and passenger are okay. You both have my thoughts and prayers going out for you. In the blink of an eye things can happen we never dreamed of 2-3 seconds before it does. Happy Memorial Day everyone, even with TS Alberto on the way. Stay safe and dry.

Because of where it happened, I believe what was said about a medical condition. It was almost at the stop sign and I’m sure he’s familiar with that parking lot and traffic flow. I didn’t realize I knew anyone until this morning as I didn’t recognize the car. So glad the injuries weren’t any more serious.

The accident was caused by a medical condition, the driver had no control of. I’m not going to go into personal details. But it was at no fault of the driver, what happened was truly an accident. No phone, speeding, or make up application was taking place. Both passengers are ok, sore but good.

A fire hydrant is dry by design .
The valve is located several feet below the ground on the water main that feeds the hydrant when the valve stem is opened. It also provides freeze protection so it will flow water during freezing temps if needed. Its designed to shear off from impact and not break the main water main.

Hollywood movies show hydrants spewing water in the air are just for movies. It doesn’t usually happen.
