On the mandated 'health care' issues - I wonder how, during the heat of the Florida summers, 90 + degrees and heat indexes in the dorms above 100 degrees, that the FDC prisons without air conditioning in the inmate dorms is not a health hazard and not a violation of that mandate?

Actions have consequences. In this case, the Florida Legislature, Federal Government interference in States matters, and uneducated citizens have 100,000+ inmates serving time at $24,000/year/inmate but without full funding.

And you can bet that in the coming legislative cycle, instead of making substantial changes to the criminal justice and mental health systems, legislatures will be posturing with more feel good laws with words such as “public safety” or “it’s for the children” that will not do a thing for either other than it it will put more people in Prison at $24k/year.

If you are going to write the laws, fund the prisons.

Florida is number 10 on the list of per capita states with a large inmate population. 2.7 billion dollars a year go to housing about 50% of non violent dopes and mopes. That is a B for Billion. The simple truth is that a GOB network has made putting folks in jail rather than treatment a huge profit generator at taxpayer expense as violent criminals roam freely as LEO has a huge proportion of their manpower and budget chasing non violent dopes and mopes where any change in policies would result in a reduction of LEO which raises all kinds of political questions. This is insanity. A person passed out in a car from drugs being housed in a prison for three years versus treatment and outpatient probation is insane, and if it was simply wasting taxpayer money fine, but our streets are not safe because the violent criminals are let out of overcrowded jails and fly under the radar as dopes and mopes are so easy to arrest and imprison to justify this archaic and counterproductive system.

A large percentage of inmates in the system for drugs or drug related issues have little or no desire to quit using or selling drugs. Inmates are using drugs on a regular basis in the prisons and jails and staff are overwhelmed trying to keep it out and then dealing with them while they are high, it is a daily struggle. The ones selling it don't wanna give up the easy good money to get a real job. And the inmates in prison if they can't get them somehow resort to making their own with available materials from within the prisons and jails often with tragic results.
