I agree, there is no way this project should take FIVE years to complete.

Not to mention, the 3-lane portion should have been extended to Muskogee or Kingsfield at a minimum. This is like putting a band aid on an amputated finger, it will help for a minute but it’s not going to fix the problem.

Jim, the road builder in Atlanta was a multi-billion dollar heavy civil engineering/contractor out of Omaha, NE. On top of having a lot of resources at their disposal the locals here do not; they were also paid some pretty significant bonuses which allowed them to throw even more resources at the project. They were the same group that reopened west bound I-10/Pensacola over Escambia Bay in 29 days following Ivan.

I just want to know why? Why has the project of HWY 29 from I-10 to Nine Mile road been going on for so long?
A year ago in Atlanta, a major HWY bridge on I-85 collapsed and the road crews there said it would take 6 months to rebuild an 8 lane HWY bridge. It took 3 months and the Interstate was back to full service use.
But not in Pensacola! No…. This project has been going on for nearly two and a half years and they aren’t anywhere near complete with the road or the bridge!!! Milking local tax dollars I guess…
