@Grand Locust – Have you ever been to Tate High School? There are over 2,000 students. There are five gates that allow access to an 80 acre campus with at least 18 buildings. If they locked all the gates but one, and forced all the cars and buses through the same gate, then herded all the kids through one entry point for inspection, school wouldn’t start until 9:30. Even if they did all that a kid could walk across the pasture or hop the fence behind the football field and be directly on campus.

I agree that we should make schools more challenging to get into, and I would like to see money allocated for that reason, but I don’t think you’re making a secure envelope around Tate. Certainly not for $50,000.

I am a Christian who supports separation of church and state. I don’t want teachers or schools serving their brand of religion to my children. Teach your religion at home and in your life; that’s where it makes a difference. You cannot legislate morality, religion, or any number of things. Words on a building are meaningless, just a way for people who think they hold some moral high ground to poke a finger in the eye of someone who might be different from them. Be careful lest we become the countries where religion is dictated.

Without God in our homes and schools, there is no rules..no laws. Folks there is absolute TRUTH and it is only found in the Holy Scriptures. We are reaping what ya’ll sowed.

Make the kids pass through metal detectors?? If all guns were removed by society, killers can still use other means to kill. The heart of the problem is not guns, but rather the human heart. We are reaping what we have sown by teaching our kids that GOD does not have a place in our society! Without GOD, there is NO HOPE!

25 million to rebuild the school where the murders happened, but I did not see any capital for school infrastructure costs of hardening school sites and moving security screening outside the locked envelope of the school. At about a thousand a school, 16 camera video security systems could be installed. Wireless lock mechanism on all doors, would be less than three hundred a door. Bullet proof glass in the main entry doors is $25 per square foot. They have a one way product which can be installed over existing glass for even less. $50,000 per school will not allow a person with a gun inside the secure envelope. Again, if your front door was wide open and people were coming into your home and committing crimes, would your first common sense solution be to hire an armed guard in your living room, or install a secure front door which cannot be breached?

Incidents like this one is evidence of extremely poor judgment back in the 70s to shut down all of the mental institutions. Yes, there were inpatients who probably should not have been institutionalized, but there were many more who belonged there. Instead they were all put out on the streets of this country and left to fend for themselves, much as is happening right now. Maybe the government should take another look at this.

This is just crazy….. you can legally be trained with weapons, go to war, and die for your country at 18, BUT you can’t own your own gun for another 3 years???? THIS JUST MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE AT ALL. The mental health screening….yes. Armed teachers…..yes. Not letting a “legal adult” buy a gun….. STUPID.

I got my first rifle when i was 15 years old. Did i shoot and kill anyone? NOPE. I was raised to respect the weapon and respect other people.

Could someone please explain how this new law helps anyone? Except the lawmakers to sleep a lil better at night. really want to know…….
