You have not heard but a handful of conceal and carry permit holders breaking the law in the last ten years. Who cares about spitting on a neighbor. Who cares about metal pipes. Who cares about 20 pills? Everybody cares about the transport of guns. All guns being transported should be in a locked and approved carry case. Just like when I move my oversize Park model rv, I go online and get a transport permit. With a phone app where the gun owner gives his id, the route of transport, the date and time, and purpose of the transport, his permit would be stored on his phone in less than a minute unless he is on a list of folks who cannot transport a gun on the public highways. This guy will get years behind bars for the pipes, and the pills, but consistently a slap on the wrist for transporting a gun in a vehicle. There should be an automatic three day mandatory jail sentence while awaiting preliminary hearing on a felony for gun transport without a permit. If found that a citizen made a good faith mistake having a gun in the car, after the three day sentence they would go free. If the judge found that there was probable cause that the person with intent transported a gun without a permit, it should be a mandatory one year felony sentence. I go online for my hunting license. I go online for my fishing license. I get a rental car and they send my paperwork to my phone which I can show an officer when I have a rental car, If I am going hunting, I will need to have an approved locked gun case in the trunk, and before I leave I would use the app on my phone to get a transport permit to put my shotguns in the car. If law abiding citizens just follow these simple steps, then gangbangers are isolated, and when this kind of stop happens, some folks are going to jail for at least a year. If they went out and tried to round up every person that had a warrant it would cost way too much money. So they issue warrants and wait for the person to come in contact with law enforcement for something completely unrelated, like a traffic stop, then they are arrested.
