The cars function as designed. They aren't tanks. They are designed to give up energy. In giving up energy hopefully they save the drivers life. The condition of the car is secondary to the occupant.

Ever seen an Indy car crash. Parts fly everywhere. Usually the driver walks away. Ten, twenty and thirty years ago the cars stayed intact and the drivers died.

So, for me and my family we will stick with the newer safer designs. I'll leave the tanks for the army.

Regarding:
"these new vehicles just totally disintegrate whether a minor fender/bender or a full-on crash? I’ve made my mind up not to buy anything new, compact car. They’re made now where you can’t get them fixed. ...
I hope the fella in the car is okay but from the looks of the car, I’d have thought much worse"

Manufacturers decided to build cars to keep the passengers alive rather than protect the vehicles. They are intentionally built to absorb the energy of an impact rather than transmit it to the people inside.

This values people over machinery. I like that priority, but that's just me. I can buy another car but granddaughters are harder to replace.

David for proper priorities

Have folks noticed in all the pictures posted on here and PNJ.com news how these new vehicles just totally disintegrate whether a minor fender/bender or a full-on crash? I've made my mind up not to buy anything new, compact car. They're made now where you can't get them fixed. The insurance companies render them a total loss since there's nothing left of the whole engine compartment - period. I'll stick with my safer/engine compartment-steel framed 2002 Toyota Camry full-sized good gas mileage 'tank' rather than paper thin death traps of today's cars. Or a TRUCK - that's the best thing any driver could have period!

I hope the fella in the car is okay but from the looks of the car, I'd have thought much worse - As a paramedic that has seen many many accidents through the years with all types of vehicles ... this era of car makers is the scariest and worst looking visually in a wreck and possibly the most deadliest outcomes. Please be careful, appreciate your life as well as others and slow down, a few extra minutes of travel time will make a big and better difference - trust me. And GET OFF the cell phone -- it can wait a few more minutes also....

Speeding resulting in a sudden STOP. Alcohol may not have been involved but speeding, carelessness, and wreckless driving were. Hope the young man will recover soon.
