Maybe better security cameras and warning signs to deter criminals from robbing. Why cant store signs say STAY AWAY ROBBERS WE CARRY GUNS TOO

I’m curious to know which studies show significant protective effects from open carry, as someone who doesn’t have a horse in this race. Most of the data I’ve seen doesn’t show a strong effect either way and a lot of studies cancel each other out. There are a lot of factors at play here. Open carry laws vary by state (e.g. complete open carry, rural only), and demographics, too. You can’t compare Florida to places like South Dakota or New Hampshire and draw any valid conclusions because they were very different places before open carry (and still are).

Upon further investigation take a look at Kennesaw’s crimes. It is going up. The law isn’t helping.

@Louise I used to live in Kennesaw and no one made me go out and purchase a gun. I never knew it was a law until today. That law is not enforced at all.

I also agree with Thor in that Kennesaw is north of Atlanta with a very different demographic. You can’t compare Cantonment/Pensacola/Molino to Kennesaw at all.

@Louise Kennesaw is also an affluent northern suburb of Atlanta. Comparable Atlanta suburbs of Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Marietta, etc. do not have mandatory gun ownership laws and have similar crime rates.

Not true! Police officers and military personnel open carry on a daily basis. Do you consider this to be a “macho thing”?

We never hear about them being robbed or mugged. Think about it.

States with open carry laws have significantly lower crime rates. If you don’t believe it, do your own research.

If ever you doubt the usefulness and success of open carry just take a look at Kennesaw, GA. It is mandatory that all adults have a weapon. They have the absolute LOWEST crime rate in the entire country. GA is an open carry state… wish FL was.

I don’t believe that open carry would make things safer. That just tells the criminal who has a gun and who doesn’t and they can target the ones who don’t. I would rather see a lot more people carry concealed firearms. Then the bad guys don’t know who is armed and who is not so the best course of action is for them to just not try to rob anybody.
