Such a tragic life changing event for both families. Prayers for u both. It’s never easy to lose a family member especially at such a young age and will forever be one of the hardest life trials a family will go thru. As for the other young man involved, this is one of the hardest things he will ever have to endure as well. It will haunt him forever to no and be responsible for the life of another. He will never get behind a wheel again without visions of that tragic night flashing thru his mind. I pray that God will be with both families and help them thru this terrible time in their lives. This is an incident that has forever scarred both families and will forever change their lives. Truly my deepest sympathies for all of u family members and friends effected by this horrible tragic accident. To Alex: u r now home w God and one of his Angels. Ur family will c u again because this is God’s promise. U will be missed by a lot of people so just no that u were a light to quite a few while I lived ur short journey on this earth. R.I.P.

Prayers for Alex and his family. Also, please don’t forget the boy driving the car. Several years ago, an elderly man jumped in front of my vehicle and he died when I hit him. There aren’t too many days that go by, that I don’t see that accident replay itself in my mind. That was on April 4 1996. This will haunt Mr. Barrow for the rest of his life.

Regarding the comment “It is not the governments [sic] job to correct this”: It is, in fact, a legitimate function of government to construct and maintain safe highways. This is so painfully obvious I don’t think it needs further exposition. As a general rule, we need more sidewalks, bicycle lanes, and street lighting in this county. That being said, virtually all after-dark car-bike crashes involve bicycles without legal lighting. I don’t know if that was the case with this incident, but bicycles on the road after dark *must* be equipped with a reflective tail light and a working headlight and tail light. It’s a good idea to wear light-colored or reflective clothing on top of that, and there are plenty of other places to add reflectors or reflective strips. Regardless who was at fault in this terrible incident, deepest sympathies to the family and friends of all involved.

It is not the governments job to correct this. Wear something bright. Have lights/reflectors on your bike. If you have your ear buds in make sure the music isn’t so loud that you can’t hear your surroundings. Such a tragic event. Prayers for all involved and everyone that is hurting.

My condolences to the family. I hate hearing that another cyclist has lost their life.

That said, and this is not meant towards this cyclist. I constantly see cyclist, at night, with no lights on their bikes. I travel 10 mile road almost nightly and see one almost every night…with No Lighting of any kind. You can purchase headlights with led flashing taillights for about 10 bucks. As an avid cyclist, please people, it you ride at night, get lights and don’t wear dark clothes. I participated. A couple months ago, in the NW Florida Wheelman sponsored “Ride of Silence” for all those injured or killed on bicycles. Please, get lights, helmets and learn to ride safely. We don’t need to lose anyone else.

.All of Alex’s family is heartbroken…he was a sweet young man… God rest his soul and please pray for all his family….. NO PARENT should ever have to lose a child. It is so sad that we only address these problems when we lose someone, especially to poor lighting on our roads. He had just left work……RIP ALEX…we love you <3 And prayers to the young man in the car….can not imagine what he is going through .

This is another hard to read story. There are so many parts of Hwy. 29 and Hwy. 95A north of Nine Mile that are so dark it is scary to drive at night not knowing what you will come up on. I hope the county will install light poles up and down both roads.

For the two families and their friends, I am lifting all of you up in prayer.
