Glad to hear they are finally using that space and hopefully there is more to come. Councilwoman Nadine came around before she passed trying to get people to occupy the business center. I haven’t heard anything about it until today.

As far as the rent being low …that is how the program works. It helps business owners to keep a low over head until they can make their business work.

@ grand locust. Is it not better to have some bussiness in the building than nothing?

I know this is a quality firm, so it is good to have the space filled, and with the firm paying the electric and a pro bono service working out of the same space is probably a win for Century, but I do not fully understand the low rent and sales tax component. My ignorance I guess.

A business license in Escambia, Florida is $26.25 flat rate….zero percent on gross receipts. (Century may have a small additional fee?) He would already have the required state license (if any).

Small Alabama towns will tax a business to death.

Okay, what about a Business License?? Has the Lawyer obtained a Business License and is it based on a “Flat Rate” or on “Gross Receipts” – that would make a difference in revenue. Flat Rate in our City in Alabama is $150.00 Gross Receipts ???? up to $400.00 + per year, that would create some revenue also.Just saying…..it is however, a start to business coming to Century and that is on my prayer list.

The sales tax is on the $100 rent. Not on any revenues the lawyer might generate.0

$100 a month seems incredibly low for a rent. The sales tax part of it is unclear as to how Century gets any benefit when there is a main office in Pensacola and this office will not be open full time. I call Pensacola and ask for an appointment on an auto accident. I meet in Century after the Auto accident. Then I go to Pensacola and sign up with an attorney. They win $100,000 compensation from the other driver, yet how do you audit where the “sale” for tax purposes took place? It is nice to have a quality firm come to town, but how does $100 a month cover ordinary wear and tear when the sales tax revenues are so unclear?
