I am an old school type of person, but E-books only make sense. Most places that use them offer various purchase options. You can purchase the "read only" option, or you can actually "buy" the book and can make a print copy of it to keep if you wish.

You can go cheap (figuratively) or you can pay a little more and have a print copy. Textbooks have gotten to the point where you have to take out a loan to buy them!

Bob, textbooks can bleach history too. It just depends on who the author is and who is doing the purchasing for the school.

Something has to give on cost of student textbooks.
It's been decades but had some college instructors who'd change books every couple of years which prevented us from buying Used Books at a huge discount.
One instructor "Dr. X" at UWF had a very specific set of extra books we had to buy from the campus store in order to research and find material that would be on our exams.
Only trouble with the "E-Books" is the ease with which History can be Bleached.

Textbook costs are outrageous
College costs are totally out of control rising much faster than inflation

I worked in the state college system for decades. The price of textbooks grew dramatically in the last 10 years.

Almost all courses have cheaper quality alternative books available. Does anyone really think that a new book needs to be used each year for calculus or many other courses?

The textbook companies use what amounts to bribery to get colleges to use their books, change books frequently, and force students to purchase licenses for online content for every student - every class. They hide the bribery well but who thinks a paid trip to Vegas for key textbook selection instructors is just for information?
