Man, 3.5 mil? They could use some of that to repair the current jail and the rest for anything else that is needed in the county. Wish I hahadd just 1 mil.

The sheriffs office asked for a 3.2 million dollar increase so that deputies could have a decent raise for the first time in many many years, and the commission refused to find the money. But they will waste that much on this project. Just shows where the priorities are.

Retaining pond or “underground water storage”. They do know that large parts of the county are swamp, right? I mean, they zone it for all kinds of stuff, but it still can’t be built on. Because it’s swamp. The underlying issue is currently, and apparently will continue to be, why didn’t they artificially raise up the area to prevent flooding in the first place? A jail in flood plains or swamp, with storage for excess water? I’m not the only one seeing this, right?

I am glad that someone thinks 3.5 mil is not a lot of money WELL it isnt when it is taxpayers money and our elected officals should spend it as if it were their money they will spend it and then raise taxes ( remember ECAT 4cent on the gallon and the increase in fire tax to benifit the south end of the county ) it is time to speak out and vote them out ALL OF THEM

It’s OK until we get really heavy rain and the new jail floods just like the old one because the “retaining pond” was never built due to future residential use.

Look AHEAD for a change! While the Whitsell company may have a better designed product, not all the factors were involved or fairly presented. The other company should have been given a chance to explain their point of view as well. In the spirit of fairness, all should have been able to speak before a final determination was made. Remember this at election time folks.
