We thought we could prohibit alcohol, and the violence and criminal elements expanded as gang turf wars became the norm. Alcohol is still plaguing our lives with personal tragedies and loss of life, but the violence and criminal enterprises are gone as bootleggers have been replaced by a bud light commercial at half time of a football game. We need to decriminalize illicit personal use of alcohol, and drugs. We need to regulate it, but the war on drugs has created the violence where folks are robbing drug stores to get opiates, and where we had the common sense to stop the alcohol prohibition, we have lost our way as rampant drug abuse and violence has gripped this nation in our new prohibitions. People will find a way to get high and hurt themselves, but when a society compounds the original problems, the resulting societal decay is not unexpected. People are being killed in their homes, murdered on the streets, and we think the war on drugs and prohibition works.....it does not.
