here is a link on how people can help:
http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/08/28/546745827/looking-to-help-those-affected-by-harvey-here-s-a-list

We took in 20 people who were displaced by Katrina who lived in Biloxi. Neighbors and friends raised 14k dollars to buy air mattress, sleeping bags, and food for the first two weeks before they could hook up with Fema, and they stayed in my house for three months. Do not think that any help you can give will not be appreciated. Their situation is desperate and government is simply too slow to help. God bless you for asking how you can help. Every little bit will help.

This proves how inept government is. Volunteers have been pouring in since Friday with church groups with private boats. Governments response is five days late to send assets. A simple intergovernmental agreement would have avoided this delay. All Gulf states should avoid this ineptness in the future. Why can private individuals know the need five days before government? The reports in Houston from CNN is that they have only seen private boats and no government boats. Some national guard trucks, but no government boats.......massive governmental failure. Thank you brave private citizens who in the end are always the ones who make a difference. God bless you.

As a Hurricane Ivan survivor (I lost just about everything, including my house), I hope that the folks who have lost much will be assisted soon. This was our biggest issue - wondering what to do next/first? I hope others who have survived previous hurricanes share knowledge. As the years have passed, I realized that what I lost was just stuff, and I could rebuild. While it's upsetting at the time, you come to acceptance and realize that you can and will rebuild.

Does anyone know how I could go about assisting in these endeavors for those impacted? I would love to help.
