@Cheryl Hicks..Thank You for your kind thoughts. Chris did spend most of yesterday trying to figure out what he could have done differently. Just to show the kind of person he is…he refused to ride in the ambulance because it would have taken several hours for the round trip….and that would have left your area uncovered. He knew he was not critical and didnt need the ambulance. He is a good man…and he will benefit your community one day….still the sorrow is there for Mrs Wilson.

Yesterday, I sent my condolences to my friend Glenda for the loss of her mother. Now, I want to sent my apology to you and to your family- I was in such shock all I thought of at the time was my friend. I DON’T CARE WHICH AMBULANCE picked who up, it was the people I was thinking of. I am sorry for the trauma your son is now having to go through although non of this is his fault. Chris my son is also a fire fighter and a lot of my friends are and the things that you all see and deal with on a daily basis is sad. My prayers and thoughts are with you as you try to figure out what you could have done differently- NOTHING! Nothing could have been different, I am so glad you are going to be okay physically and my prayers are for you emotionally, she is in heaven and that is her blessing.

I guess to better state, Public Safety Director Mike Weaver stated that he wanted to end the Alabama agreement to improve north Escambia coverage. In the process, Atmore was publicly called out as inadequate, yet, you can’t improve north end coverage if the one and only Century ambulance is consistently being pulled south to cover calls that they can’t cover south of McDavid. This common practice leaves the north end having no choice but to rely on Lifeguard and the very service that they’ve publicly said that they can’t rely on, which is Atmore. I can’t recall the last time DW McMillan (it is a fair distance away, so I understand) agreed to run anything in Escambia, and to my knowledge Atmore has never said no and has proudly stepped up and quite often helps Escambia not only in the north end but also in Pensacola as Escambia can’t seem to manage to staff a full roster and provide adequate service coverage. On many occasions, there isn’t an ambulance available to respond to Century. All agencies are busy and face their own challenges, yet Escambia EMS doesn’t hesitate to pull our coverage south without regard to the status and needs of surrounding agencies and to their respective communities. Response statistics can be publicly requested BTW…

Chris is my son. We as a family, are deeply saddened by this tragedy. Chris has spent most of his adult life as as a fire medic with the fire dept and a very talented medic with an ambulance company. He has devoted his life to saving lives. Please remember him as he struggles with this side of reality. Our deepest sympathies to the family of Mrs Wilson. God bless you all.
