My sister-in-law is a public defender attorney. I can tell you that she makes thousands less than private attorneys per year, even though she has equal student loan debt. She also has to spend countless hours at home reviewing cases, and studying law. Her own time; she is not compensated for it. If there is no incentive for attorneys to choose to be public defenders, who will represent those who do not have the means to purchase a private attorney? I'm not saying that other people do not deserve a raise. I am saying that complaining about a public servant receiving a raise is counterproductive. Blame fat cats instead. Your public defenders are local moms and dads who raise a typical middle class family just like most others in the area.

I think that HB305 is a prudent bill. Everyone knows that in an adrenaline infused situation, people frequently see or experience events in different ways- sometimes, not always accurately. Better to know EXACTLY what occurred, or who said what, before a report is written. It's best, and fair, for all parties involved.

Wow 10% pay raise for judges, states attorneys and public defenders. Why can't the lunch room workers in Escambia county get the raises they have been promised. Oh well we can dream :)

What a great honor, and a great person. Congratulations to you Wendall Hall, to have a lasting mark in society, along with your accomplishments as Sheriff.

TRANSPORTATION:

HB 221, creates long-debated statewide regulations for “transportation network companies,” such as Uber and Lyft. The measure, backed by the ridesharing industry,
SB 368, designates 50 roads and bridges across the state. The measure names sections of Orange County roads after slain Orlando Police Lt. Debra Clayton and the late golf legend Arnold Palmer. In addition, a part of U.S. 441 in Miami-Dade County will be “Muhammad Ali Boulevard,” and a portion of U.S. 90 in Santa Rosa County will honor Wendell Hall, who retired last year after 16 years as the county’s sheriff.

Under Budget HB 7022, State employees get a 5% raise but Judges, State Attorneys and public defender get a 10%. What's wrong with this picture?? Maybe it should be the other way around.
