Like one of the other comments, some inmates are there for minor offenses while others are violent ones. They are there to do their time not to be mules for gangs and NOT to be killed. Things aren't handled now like they were in the lod ways. It's getting worse up there. You know why? Because some of the higher ups are wanting to side with the inmates & some are wanting to teach them to be nicer people. The officers aren't getting backed & the inmates, they don't have any respect for no one & never really learn to respect, they're pretty much think that officers need to respect them because they get away with so much & the officers get in trouble. Now I'm not saying that the inmates should be beat up just because but I will say they deserve to get discipline when they act out of turn. They should not be respected. If they want respect then they'll do right & stay out of trouble & not land themselves in prison. It's different when a man goes to prison for stopping a woman from being treated badly but to do drugs, steal rape & so on. None of our law enforcement officers make nearly enough & all of them face the fact that at anytime, their lives could be in danger. It depends who is talking, at one point they switched COs to being peace officers instead of law enforcement. These officers put their lives in danger & yes it can put their family in danger, but the Correctional officers make less than other law enforcement officers, some make less than department of Children & Families investigators. They r just crap on the shoe of life for those who have to work and feed them meanwhile they get 3 hots n a cot and so many do with out medical ins because it is too expensive.. The prions have gotten so bad because they took the power from the CO and gave it to the inmates and the good officers are leaving because they haven't had a pay raise in several yrs.. everyday I wonder if one of the CO'S are gonna get hurt or killed it's getting out if control.. they need to give the power back to them n away from inmates.. prison isn't club med it's punishment.. It is true that they should have not come to prison in the first place but they are here, some are more violent than others but some are in here for minor infractions and you have to give them care.
