Otherwise, they're ineffective. A much better option is a NOAA weather radio for indoors, and/or a smart phone with a good weather app that will push severe weather notifications. Watched it from just south of Mason Rd on 97. The entire storm circulation was spinning like a top. Several small vortex formed with a couple dropping to ground level. Followed it towards Walnut Hill where it crossed 97 right around McKinnonville road. Another small vortex formed before the storm crossed 97. They looked very weak and were short lived. Channel 3 and channel 5 did an excellent job, but for those of us who do not have cable service in our area and rely on Dish we lose our TV coverage in a heavy overcast like yesterday afternoon.
