I already knew it was much more than the $20k per year average, but I was dumbfounded at the appellant costs. Then considering the average death row inmate is there for 13-14 years is incredible. So from grand jury to burial, we're talking millions of dollars per inmate. Sorry, but something needs to be done to speed things up dramatically. However, in today's world of "everyone gets an award, love everyone, you hurt my feelings", I think it's as good as it's gonna get. Sad. Look up the cost of housing a death row inmate in Florida. Executing them all is not going to relieve overcrowding. According to the FDOC website, the annual cost to house an inmate is about $20,000. I wish the article would of addressed the cost of placing someone on death row compared to life in prison. I am all for going with whichever is cheaper. I work two job to make ends meet....I am not a taker but a giver of my taxes and I AM SO TIRED OF others (you know it if I'm talking about you) getting something for nothing!
