I’m usually sound asleep about 2 a.m. My .45 ACP mounts a great little flashlight so that I don’t shoot a friend or child. I would shoot an armed intruder usually unless he surrendered immediately and utterly. I awaken quickly but fear that I could shoot before the perpetrator could surrender utterly. Don’t want blood on my carpet or hardwood floors. Still, I’d rather be cleaning up his blood than having my wife mopping up mine. Hollow points and other defense ammo are EXPENSIVE and you are loathe to waste them but when needed, spend a few dollars. Redundancy can be a great thing to avoid being shot yourself; if they’re worth one shot, give until it hurts. DON’T LET THEM HURT YOU!

More damage here than a window! Once someone has broken into your home at 2 am with a knife, will you ever feel as at ease at night in your home again? Not likely! He stole some peace mind from this family. PTSD is also likely for a while, likely be at a high state of readiness for a while. Police are trained to expect a second person.
Homeowner was prepared, protected his family from a lethal threat. Cowboy’d UP!

I believe this man that didn’t kill this thief is very unnerved me I know I would have blown his brains out and ask questions later with no regrets funny how people are different seriously I would have shot him dead see i play with a 44 mag or 12 gauge loaded with mag buck shot to bad this one got away !!!!

Dead men can’t take the stand in court.
As far as my conscience, I’ll sleep like a baby knowing I smoked someone who broke into MY home. I’d shoot him twice for bringing a weapon with him.
As far as the law, I point you to the Castle Doctrine. If they enter your home illegally, you have the right expect that they intend to commit great bodily harm or death and you have the right to use lethal force to defend yourself and your family.
