Jury duty is a civic duty. There may be things in life you don't want to do but sometimes you sacrifice for the greater good. If you were accused of something you would have a right expect a fair and impartial jury of your peers. Where would you expect them to be obtained? A professional jury pool would be a bad idea. I do believe however that the pay should be the same amount you would normally earn at whatever job you hold if the employer doesn't pay for jury duty, and that by law you should not have vacation/sick leave deducted at work for jury duty. Bring a current pay stub and a letter from the employer stating they don't pay for jury duty. A lot of people can't afford to lose the time because they live paycheck to paycheck. 6th Amendment
