Permits are nothing more than a racket to make a few more bucks for the local government. Half the time inspectors don't even do an inspection much less a thorough one. I wouldn't let half of the licensed and insured roofers in north west Florida look at my roof much less repair or replace it. It's a homeowners job to hire qualified companies/people that do reputable work to fix their house the government shouldn't have their hand in any of it. A ridge vent and some facia blow off and your supposed to deal with a permit before you fix your house ridiculous!
